back Application:

The surface polishing unit is based on a belt grinding system and has been designed for processing surface flaws scratches, fine cracks, overlaps, flowlines and surface flaws caused by moulds (press seams and mould rings occuring in the rotation blowing process). It allows to comply with special design requirements and to polish and grind the surface of high quality glass items.

The glass item is put onto a vacuum plate which has the inner contour of the glass item. An additional pneumatic device helps to press the item onto the vacuum plate. The glass item is thus tightened and centred. In order to achieve an optimal grinding process, the machine has four axes. A synchronized movement cycle of these axes allows the glass item to be consistently moved tangential to the grinding belt. The four main movement axes are based on servo-motor systems. The grinding belt speed is adjustable by a frequency controlled motor.
The movement cycles of the grinding process are programmed via a graphic profile which is precisely relayed to the belt-grinding system via the servo-motor systems. The profile can be fed into the software either via direct transfer of the AutoCad-data or by a teach-in function. The four main axes are freely and individually programmed and allow an individual adjustment to the contour of the glass item while the system is in operation. This guarantees that the defined profile may be further optimized and that a nearly unrestricted range of glass shapes and designs can be processed.
